Some Stratford parents say they were left in the dark about where their children were as police searched for armed suspects following a nearby shooting.

One school bus brought students to Stratford Academy to provide a shelter after the shooting, but parents say another bus was delayed and school officials didn’t give word on where those students were.

One affected parent, Eric Cray, says he called the school to confirm everything was OK after hearing about the shooting while waiting at a bus stop.

Cray says “they had no information about anything” during his phone call.

Stratford School Superintendent Janet Robinson says the district sent one bus and two vans to Stratford Academy.

“My immediate concern was to get kids out of the vicinity,” says Robinson.

Cray says his children arrived an hour late, but without word from the district.

School leaders say they didn't immediately notify Cray because his kids were only delayed. Robinson adds that part of the communication issue came from the fact that there was no warning that a manhunt was happening in the area.

Robinson says that she is working with police to improve communication in the future.
