Stratford Mayor Jim Miron says Metro-North and Connecticut DOT have told him a fence for a dangerous stretch of railroad track will soon be put up, but the city is still waiting.
Three people have been hit by trains along those tracks in the past four months. Miron says the fence should have been put up a long time ago.
Officials announced in mid-July that they would have a fence put up by the end of August. The mayor says he has been assured that construction is just around the corner.
Miron says the special woven-steel fence will run along the residential side of the tracks. It won't be easy to climb or cut for those tempted to cross the tracks to get to Stratford Avenue, he says.
Until the fence is installed, Miron says enforcement has been stepped up along that stretch of the tracks. Stratford police, Metro-North police and community resource officers are stationed there.
