Roosevelt School students who took part in Tuesday's first-ever White House Talent Show in Washington, D.C. received a warm homecoming today.
The school choir sang and others held signs to welcome the students home from the nation's capital.
Roosevelt School was one of eight schools from across the country chosen to participate in the Turnaround Arts initiative, which included a grant to use art education to boost academic achievement.
The Bridgeport students worked closely with renowned artist Chuck Close to paint portraits of each other that were displayed at the White House.
Students say they met first lady Michelle Obama and then received a surprise visit from President Barack Obama.
Michelle Obama announced yesterday that the program will be expanding to 35 schools in 11 states this fall.
School officials say they've noticed a difference since the initiative began. Attendance is up, school suspensions are down and reading and math scores are on the rise.
