A man accused of accidentally setting a Weston home on fire appeared in court Wednesday and had his bail reduced.
Liberato Feitas, 45, is charged with arson and reckless burning in connection with the blaze at a Smith Ridge Road home. The judge reduced his bail from $100,000 to $2,500 because the blaze is seen as accidental.
Police say Feitas, a construction worker, was burning boxes when the flames spread and destroyed the home, which was under construction. Investigators say the flames spread quickly because of dry and windy conditions.
Authorities say two other homes were damaged by the fire, which also charred 15 acres of woods. Three firefighters were injured in the blaze.
Feitas' son Andrew says he's shocked by the charges against his father.
"He's a hard-working guy," says 20-year-old Andrew Freitas. "He works paycheck to paycheck trying to make a living to support a family."
