The superintendent of the Region 9 school district postponed a homecoming dance and canceled a social Friday due to growing concerns over the spread of H1N1.
According to Superintendent Dr. Michael Cicchetti, a social at John Read Middle School was canceled after all five schools in the district reported a total of five H1N1 cases last week and 24 this week.
At Joel Barlow High School, the homecoming dance was postponed, but the school did hold a scheduled pep rally. Administrators say they took precautions, including offering hand sanitizer to students.
Cicchetti says the district will continue to monitor the attendance rate and consult with town health officials about upcoming school activities.
