There was a heated hearing in Hartford Tuesday over a push by tow truck companies to get drivers to pay more.
They're asking the DMV for a rate increase for non-consensual tows.
Two truck operators said they're paying more for fuel and insurance, but drivers called the industry "predatory."
"To be honest, a lot of it is greed. Just blind greed -- ways to make money off customers, ways to make money off of people who are being towed," said Paul Boudreau, of Seramonte Tenants' Union.
Tow truck companies haven't gotten a rate increase in four years.
The DMV is accepting comments on this issue over the next two weeks.
