Neighboring governors of the tri-state area held a conference call today to announce a joint lawsuit against the federal government over the Republican-led federal tax overhaul.
Gov. Dannel Malloy, Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey say they have a strong argument to prove the tax legislation is unconstitutional.
The governors say the tax bill violates states’ rights and the equal protection clause.
On the call, Gov. Malloy mentioned specifically why the president's tax plan is negatively impacting Connecticut.
"These changes discriminate against our state, against our economy, against the individual citizens who live within our states,” says Gov. Malloy. “And somebody has to stand up and say, 'Not at the time. You can't do this.'”
Gov. Malloy expects other states to join the lawsuit, which will be filed in federal court.
He says he may propose a state solution to the issue in his next budget proposal.
