Families in Trumbull are asking the Board of Education to follow other school districts in the area and add Muslim holidays to the school calendar.
The board held a virtual meeting Tuesday where parents spoke up about building in holidays like Eid al-Fitr permanently to the calendar.
Students, parents and teachers expressed to the board why they feel it is important to include these holidays and learn about them.
"It’s so essential to a child's development, to feel like they're values are just as important as anybody else's," said Ronica Choudhary.
Eid al-Fitr is the official end of Ramadan that is celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
