The Trumbull Gardens Community Center will reopen next month.
Officials announced Friday that the center will reopen its doors Sept. 1 under the leadership of Ruth Garth.
Angry parents complained about the center's closure, saying it was the only save haven for young people in the city's North End.
Officials say unlike the previous director, a volunteer, Garth has the expertise to write grant applications so the center can get much-needed funding.
Officials say they closed the center to make safety improvements. City Councilwoman Mary McBride Lee says she's happy it's reopening but that a September target date will still leave kids without a center for the summer.
There are plans to open the center for several events this month, but officials say they cannot make the basketball court available for use until after the grand opening.
