Tuesday's derailment is the third time in 12 years a Metro-North train derailed in New Canaan.
A train derailed in the same spot in 2016, which was blamed on a faulty switch. And five years earlier, a train overshot the same platform during a snowstorm.
The collision Tuesday happened around 7:15 a.m. just as the train was arriving. The train crashed through a fence and ended up a few feet from a busy intersection.
No passengers were on board at the time and service has since been restored.
