Hundreds of lacrosse players will pick up their sticks - and their costumes - this Saturday in Bridgeport.
The fourth annual Reindeer Games at Puglio Park will again be played in honor of Jimmy McGrath, a 17-year-old Fairfield Prep lacrosse player fatally stabbed in May 2022.
The event raises money for Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse and will award prizes for the best holiday team costume.
"They're going to be dressed up in Sasquatch, reindeers, elves, Santa Claus," co-founder of BYL Don Wilson says. "That's what makes this tournament so unique and special."
Kevin McGrath of the Jimmy McGrath Foundation says the annual tournament honoring his son isn't about stats, scores, winners, or losers: It's about joining together to combat the teen mental health crisis.
"He's the first guy that would put on a costume, pick up a stick, and just have a great time," McGrath says. "His energy is personified on the field tomorrow."
The games begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
