The MTA and PSEG Long Island are making preparations to keep Long Island running during and after this weekend’s winter storm.

PSEG Long Island has brought on extra crews to work through the night. Chief Operating Officer Scott Jennings says ice could bring down tree branches and power lines.

“We’re watching the snow ice line. Right now we expect this to be mostly snow,” Jennings said. “It may get heavier as it goes on including on the south shore so we are watching that.”

Meanwhile, MTA officials say service will keep running during and after the storm.

MTA chairman and CEO Janno Lieber told News 12 the system will remain operational no matter how much snow comes down.

“The MTA will be running service come hell or high water, whether it’s 7 inches or 13 inches or whatever we’re going to be ready,” Lieber said.

Long Island Rail Road schedules will be modified during the storm, according to railroad President Rob Free

Trains originating and terminating at Massapequa will be removed from the schedule. But the Babylon branch will maintain service every 30 minutes.

The Port Washington and Huntington branches will move to hourly service.

Free says railroad operations will be re-evaluated once ten inches of snow has fallen.
