High school students in Norwalk are disappointed, but parents are breathing a sigh of relief after Friday night?s big basketball game was postponed.

City leaders say shootings on Monday and Wednesday forced the postponement of the game between Norwalk and Brien McMahon high schools. They also say the stabbing death of 17-year-old Tikwan Hunt a few weeks ago prompted the postponement.

The two teams just played last week. Friday?s game was expected to draw hundreds of spectators.

?Given the tenor of the times we?ve had and some of the concerns parents have had and some of the drive-by shootings, we decided [we needed] a little cooling-off period,? Norwalk Mayor Dick Moccia says. ?We?re not canceling it, we?re postponing it.?

The game is postponed until the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 9.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating both shootings. They are looking at the possibility that Wednesday?s shooting on Orchard Street was in retaliation for the stabbing of Hunt.
