A Bridgeport musician who is visually impaired is in the running for the Holman Prize.

Nate Barnes is legally blind, but it hasn't stopped him from his passion of being a musician and producer.

Barnes is a candidate for the 2019 Holman Prize.

The Holman Prize was created by the LightHouse in San Francisco and is one of the United States' preeminent blindness institutions.

Competitors created a 90- second YouTube video, and the three with the most likes by March 25, get up to $25,000.

Barnes says he would use the winnings to open a music technology lab for the visually impaired.

"It would be good for the blind community because it also allows me to teach music production and it will also help level the playing field for blind people as far music production is concerned," Barnes says.
