Incumbent state Sen. Republican Tong Hwang is being challenged by Democrat Rob Blanchard in the race for state Senate District 28.
Blanchard is the chief of state for state Comptroller Sean Scanlon.
The district is made of several communities including Fairfield, Easton, Newtown and Bethel.
