A Westport police officer and several first responders helped deliver a healthy baby girl Wednesday morning.
Officer David Perez says they helped deliver the baby at the mother's home around 8:45 a.m. When they arrived, the woman, Kate Procaccini, was in labor in an upstairs bedroom.
After just minutes, baby Mila was born.
"We couldn't have been more honored or more proud to witness such a beautiful event unfold and be part of that with the family," Perez says.
EMTs say they knew the birth would come before they could transport Procaccini to the hospital.
Both the mother and newborn are doing fine, officials say.
Perez has previously worked for an emergency medical unit in Bridgeport.
