Police in Westport are mourning the loss of former Deputy Chief Vinny Penna, who died unexpectedly Friday.
"It was a real shock to the whole organization," says Chief Foti Koskinas.
Koskinas says Penna, who was 51 years old, worked tirelessly both within the department and in his community.
"Vinny held roles throughout this organization, says Koskinas. "There wasn't a job in this department that he didn't work at one time."
Koskinas says Penna was also very active with the Boy Scouts. The scoutmaster for Troop 36 says Penna jumped into the program with both feet and was soon volunteering as an assistant scoutmaster.
Trustworthy, loyal, helpful and friendly are just some of the words used to describe Penna. Chief Koskinas say all his positive energy is how the lifelong Westport resident will be remembered.
A graveside service will be held for friends and family Tuesday.
