A Westport store is closing after nearly 70 years in business.
For decades, people have been coming to Liberty Army & Navy on Post Road East. But owner Eve Rothbard says it's time to retire.
Rothbard's father opened the store in Bridgeport in the 1950s, and it moved to Westport in the '70s. The family at one time operated Army & Navy stores in Norwalk and Stratford.
The closure is bittersweet for Rothbard, who says the business became a part of her life.
"I think the key has been service to the customer," she says. "We have great relationships with people. We've been honored and privileged to be a part of the community for so long."
While the internet has affected her sales somewhat, Rothbard says commercial accounts have been the backbone of the business.
The store is running a big sale until it closes at the end of May.
