This week, News 12 Connecticut's What's Ailing You looks at what symptoms will arise if a woman is having a heart attack.
Women's symptoms are drastically different from those men experience, says state Rep. Brenda Kupchick (R-Fairfield).
Dr. Thomas Nero, of Stamford-based Cardiac Physicians of Fairfield County, says to look out for pressure or burning in the chest, and less frequently, severe weakness, fatigue and shortness of breath. Indigestion or nausea may also hit.
Dr. Nero says doctors aren't sure why women's symptoms can be vague and different from the crushing chest pain men tend to experience.
"If you're not sure, see somebody," Dr. Nero says. "I don't think there's any doctor who would be upset at a patient for coming in because they think they might be having a heart attack and they needed to figure it out."
