Stratford fire officials are trying to determine the cause of Sunday night?s fire that left two families homeless.
Stratford Fire Marshal Tom Velky says the blaze at 166 Orange St. started in the tenant's first-floor apartment and then quickly spread throughout the house. He says damage to the home was extensive. Velky wouldn?t say if the fire was deemed suspicious, but did ask for help with the case from state fire officials.
Fire officials interviewed all of the tenants and homeowners as part of their investigation.
"I just thank God everyone is safe, that no one was in the house at the time, and that all lives were spared,? homeowner Lawanda Martinez says.
Martinez says her family will find a place to stay temporarily, but there is no word on where her tenant will go.
