Bridgeport police are investigating a drive-by shooting that sent two people to the hospital overnight.
Investigators say the shooting took place in an industrial area of Bridgeport at the intersection of Bostwick Avenue and Pine Street at around 2 a.m.
Authorities believe the shooter was driving a brown SUV with a window that was shot out.
The Hartford Courant reports that one of the victims was critically injured, while the other was shot in the buttocks and is listed in stable condition at Bridgeport Hospital.
This latest act of violence has raised safety concerns among local residents. In January alone, Bridgeport had seen four homicides, including the shooting death of 14-year-old Justin Thompson as he walked with friends along Seaview Avenue.
Community activists, including state Senate candidate Ernie Newton, say more must be done to stop the violence.
"I really think that this has got to become a state issue, and I think the governor is going to have to intervene because there just too many shootings in urban areas," he says.
