Traffic-related deaths declined across Connecticut last year, according to new state transportation data.

The state recorded 274 traffic deaths in 2025, down nearly 40 from 312 in 2024, the Department of Transportation said.

That marks a 12% decrease year over year, the agency said.

While overall deaths declined, cyclist-related deaths rose nearly 67% and pedestrian-related deaths increased 6%, the department said.

Speed remains the leading factor in serious crashes statewide, officials said.

Early data for 2026 shows 12 traffic fatalities statewide through Jan. 27, the department said.
