‘We’ve had enough.' Irvington residents push for solution to chronic flooding

People who live along Taxter Road, Willow Lane and Cayuga Lane say torrential downpours routinely overwhelm the area, causing water to spill onto properties and threatening homes.

Residents in a flood-prone section of Irvington are again calling for action after heavy rain from Tuesday’s storm left parts of their neighborhood underwater.

People who live along Taxter Road, Willow Lane and Cayuga Lane say torrential downpours routinely overwhelm the area, causing water to spill onto properties and threatening homes.

"When the rain is unbearable, the water comes up to the house," said Irvington resident Paul Pisacano.

Residents say they have dealt with the problem for years. Gregory Maugeri, who has lived in the neighborhood for decades, said recurring floods have created ongoing concern whenever severe weather moves through the region.

"You just wonder, 'Is this going to be the one that's going to, you know, wash me out or what?' So, it's not an easy feeling," said Maugeri.

While neighbors acknowledge storm-drain improvements made in recent years, they argue the upgrades have not solved the underlying problem. They say the drainage system collects runoff more efficiently but lacks the capacity to handle large volumes of water during major storms.

Residents have raised their concerns with the Greenburgh Town Board and are urging local leaders to pursue additional infrastructure improvements. According to residents, Paul Feiner has expressed interest in developing a plan to address the issue.

News 12 reached out to the town supervisor for comment but did not receive a response.
