The New York City Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The city warns drivers could face heavy rain, strong winds and flooded roadways.

As Mother Nature brings a set of challenges, drivers are faced with another dilemma. Many forced to think twice before pumping gas as the prices continue to increase.

According to AAA, this week’s average for a gallon of gas across the city is $4.24, nearly 10 cents higher than last week’s average of $4.16.

The current price is well over a dollar from last year’s average price of $3.16.

Meanwhile, the Bronx average price is slightly higher at $4.30.

On Tuesday, drivers say the growing prices have made them reconsider even owning a car. "I cannot manage that. $4.19 for the lowest car? No, I don't think so," said a bus driver, Monica.

For those that have to get on the road, the city says it’s best to practice safe driving and patience.

Officials say take it slow, give yourself extra time, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and don’t drive through a flooded street or underpass.

The city's travel advisory will remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
