The Newtown community came together Monday morning for the 57th annual Labor Day Parade.
Stephanie Griffith tell News 12 that she remembers coming to the parade as a child, and now she’s continuing the tradition with her own children.
"Newtown is really about community and families and pulling everybody together,” she says.
Gubernatorial candidates Democrat Ned Lamont, Republican Bob Stefanowski and Independent candidate Oz Griebel marched in the parade as part of their campaigns.
"It's nice to see the candidates here,” said one attendee. “They're part of the community and that's what this parade is all about."
Candidates running for senate including Sen. Chris Murphy and Matthew Corey were also in attendance.
The candidates told News 12 that they felt welcomed at the parade and are now looking ahead to the rest of the campaign season.
