The Greenwich man accused of murdering a woman outside her home appeared before a judge and didn't enter a plea Friday afternoon.
Gerardo Lombardi, 75, is accused of killing his former daughter-in-law, 49-year-old Alison Lombardi, Thursday.
Police say Alison Lombardi had hired surveyors in advance of putting up a fence on the property next to Gerardo Lombardi's residence, and that appears to have started the confrontation leading to the alleged murder.
"She was cut down in her backyard while trimming bushes. She sustained numerous stab wounds, and I believe she was also shot," says Senior Prosecutor Steve Weiss. "It's a strong case. The defendant confessed on tape to Greenwich detectives after he was brought down to the police station."
Weiss says Gerardo Lombardi had a knife and gun at the time of his arrest. He is being held on a $2 million bond and returns to court Sept. 22.
