The man who police say killed a homeless man in Bridgeport and ate parts of his body appeared in court to plead not guilty this morning.
Police say Tyree Smith, 35, admitted he killed Angel Gonzalez and then ate one of his eyeballs and part of his brain.
Before entering his plea, Smith waived his right to a probable cause hearing.
Gonzalez's sister-in-law, Talitha Frazier, says the plea took her by surprise.
Gonzalez's relatives have said they feel Smith deserves life in prison.
