The U.S. Coast Guard says the barges that washed up on of Woodmont Beach in Milford on Thursday have drifted a mile and are now stuck in West Haven.
They say the barges left the beach around 6:30 a.m. and floated a mile away to Annawan Avenue.
Crews have attached tow lines onto these barges. and will tow them to the original moor which is about 5 miles from Milford where they were beached.
Officials say the weather is complicating efforts to remove them, and they probably can't actually pull the vessels out until high tide, which isn't until 7 p.m. If the high winds persist, they may not be able to tow them out until later this weekend.
The barges belong to Buchanan Marine, which plans to re-moor them and assess whether they are still viable.
The Coast Guard says no one was aboard the barges when they broke free, and no injuries have been reported.
