Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is warning holiday shoppers about misleading marketing.
He says that consumers may think merchandise that is sold at outlet stores is of the same quality as retail stores, but that may not always be the case.
"Consumers are led to believe that the quality is the same... when in fact these goods are made solely for the outlet mall with often lesser-quality material," he says.
Blumenthal says he is calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate. He says he did so earlier this year, but the FTC said there were not enough claims.
Blumenthal tells News 12 that since then, 11 class-action lawsuits have been filed against seven retailers.
