The Boys and Girls Club of Milford has received a $1.1 million grant that will enable the organization to serve more kids in the community.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro and city officials made the announcement Thursday.
The money will be used to renovate Saint Gabriel's School into a club activity facility, allowing members to have access to sports and recreational activities.
Board members describe the grant as a lifeline that will breathe new life into the organization and into the club members' lives.
"The new clubhouse will be a transformative space. A dedicated facility where youth can come to learn, grow and find their path. It will be a safe and welcoming environment where kids can build friendships, explore new opportunities and develop new skills they need to become the leaders of tomorrow," says Dr. Gary Opin.
As a result of the grant, the club will be able to double its membership over the next five years.
