The Temple of the Way Church in Bridgeport was burglarized Tuesday, and now the church is looking to help the person involved.
Equipment was taken from a room the pastor calls the music lab. A MacBook laptop was stolen from a table, a microphone was taken from inside a singing booth and other musical equipment was also stolen.
Apostle Josiah Israel teamed up with the Jewel of Joy Counseling Services to create a program for kids and young adults in the area called How to Make a Record.
"Music has one of the major influences on young people," said Israel. "They do podcasting, they learn music engineering, they learn how to make a record from the beginning to the end."
Israel noticed equipment was missing and the door was broken into. A business next door picked up surveillance footage.
Elder James Watson says his heart was broken to find out music equipment had been stolen from an organization that is trying to help the community.
Israel and Watson say they have forgiveness for whoever burglarized the church.
"We welcome you back," said Israel. "There's no hate or anger towards you. It's just shame on you, you know? What you did was wrong, now let's do what we need to do to make it right. That's what we represent."
The church will be adding extra surveillance cameras to the music lab as well as the sanctuary.
