The Bridgeport Fire Department kicked off its annual ?Fill the Boot? initiative Wednesday to benefit muscular dystrophy patients.
Bridgeport Fire Chief Brian Rooney says all funds raised during the campaign will go toward research and helping children suffering from muscular dystrophy to attend summer camp.
Rooney says with tough economic times, the need for contributions is great.
?I know that economic conditions aren't at their best, but diseases like this don't take a vacation,? he says.
The department will start collecting donations at various locations around Bridgeport Friday.
