Bridgeport police say a man lost one hand and part of another after setting off a firecracker on New Year's Day.
Police say Joseph Lopez told them he found the explosive in front of a home on Maple Wood Avenue.
Witnesses told police he tried to light it outside, but the wind blew the fuse out so he took it into the kitchen and set it off.
Police say they don't know where the explosive came from.
Lopez is facing reckless endangerment charges.
