The city of Bridgeport's Democratic Town Committee is expected to endorse a candidate for mayor Tuesday, and the candidates spent the weekend out campaigning ahead of the decision.

The Democratic Town Committee is made up of 90 delegates, and candidates to endorse are selected by a majority. The Democratic candidate who wins the committee's endorsement must get the backing of 46 delegates.

Former Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim passed out ice cream and shook constituents' hands as he seeks to get his old job back. As News 12 has reported, Ganim was convicted on 16 of 21 counts of public corruption and resigned from the post.

Current Mayor Bill Finch, meanwhile, unveiled a new splash pad at the Curiale School in Bridgeport. He predicted he will walk away with the nomination.

Candidate Mary Jane Foster, who says she is not vying for the endorsement, spent the day telling voters she is the best candidate. "I believe Bridgeport deserves better," she said.

One delegate in the committee says that the convention will be competitive, and it won't be clear until Tuesday who will get the endorsement.
