A Greenwich-based shelter for children and families got a boost from state and local leaders in Bridgeport Wednesday.
Those leaders offered to try to help the "Kids in Crisis" temporary shelter rebound from a major state budget cut.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Mayor-elect Joe Ganim held a news conference Wednesday morning to call on state officials to reverse a $750,000 cut from the agency's state funding, which was announced in September.
The agency's executive director, Shari Shapiro, said she is hopeful that some state funds set aside for other emergency beds for children will be redirected to Kids in Crisis.
A fire on Alanson Road Sunday destroyed the homes of several families and left them in need of help from the nonprofit social service agency.
The families affected said that Kids in Crisis will be giving them shelter when their help from the city and the Red Cross runs out in a few days.
