A Bronx woman says she was scammed out of thousands of dollars in an apartment scam.
Maritza Lepin claims she was taken for $4,000 when she went looking for a three-bedroom apartment at a building on Blackrock Avenue. According to Lepin, a woman claiming to own an apartment, Jeannette Rodriguez, asked for the first month's rent in advance and a security deposit.
Lepin says that after she gave Rodriguez the money and was set to move in, Rodriguez vanished. Lepin says Rodriguez lied about owning the apartment and actually owed more than two months rent.
