The streets of two small beach communities in Milford may soon be monitored by public surveillance cameras instead of police officers, authorities say.
Milford police say they are applying for $46,000 in grant funding to install cameras in Walnut and Wildemere beach communities, which are famous for their pristine shorelines that attract many outsiders every summer.
Authorities say the cameras would be pre-programmed with a block-out feature so that dispatchers who control them could not zoom in on people's homes.
Milford police say if they receive the grant money, the cameras could be in place by the end of next year.
