The owner of a Westport coffee shop is optimistic she won't have to close thanks to the support of the community.
Steam Coffee Bar, located on the New Haven side of the Westport train station, is usually closed on Sundays, but a few hundred people packed the shop yesterday to help raise the funds needed to keep it open.
Owner Briana Pennell says getting noticed is difficult with fewer commuters on the shop's side of the tracks during morning hours. She says that money has always been a little tight, but $3,000 was needed by Tuesday in order to stay open.
Regular customers got the word out, and Pennell says they raised a good amount of money at a fundraiser last night. Pennell was about $800 shy of her goal Monday evening, but she was confident that her doors would stay open with the support of the community.
