The mayor is expected to sign the bill the City Council passed10 days ago, extending the number of consecutive four-year termsofficeholders can have. The public is allowed to speak atbill-signings, and many of Bloomberg's critics are speaking at thesigning this morning. They argue that voters should have had thechance to weigh in.
Bloomberg and two-thirds of the council would have been forcedout of office next year under existing law. But they pushed througha bill to change the law to allow three consecutive terms.
