Bridgeport's Ocean Terrace Fire Station was officially reopened Tuesday following a 10-month closure for renovations.

The station was closed in November after its floor began to sink. In some places, the floor sank as much as 2 feet.

The firefighters were temporarily moved to another station on Wood Avenue, a move met with some controversy after three people were killed in a Fairfield Avenue fire. Critics of the move said the different station affected response time.

Mayor Bill Finch believes having the station back is a step in the right direction."It means a lot to Blackrock and the West End that their firehouse is open and fully operational," says Finch. "When the firemen were in the temporary quarters, I think the morale suffered a bit and I think the firefighters did a great job to overcome facilities that were not up to our standards..."

The floor at the station is fixed, but officials at the ceremony say more repairs are needed. More than $1 million for the repairs has been bonded by the state, marking the first time the state has granted money to a municipal fire station.
