Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara had his last day on the job Friday.
He on the force served for 30 years, of which he was chief for eight.
MacNamara signed off the radio one last time, and a march was held with police motorcycles and honor guards from the station to the Fairfield Theatre Company.
He will be the executive director of public safety and governmental affairs at Sacred Heart University starting Monday.
MacNamara says he has mixed emotions and will miss his fellow officers the most.
Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy will become active chief, effective Saturday.
The town's police commission will vote on a new chief.
