As the new school year begins, many are reflecting on past teachers who helped prepare them.
Some Stratford residents told News 12 that it only takes one great teacher to change your life.
Stratford first-grade teacher Marybeth Petrella has instructed two generations of one family.
The Rollo family tells News 12 that Petrella taught their dad at Honeyspot and the kids last year at Stratford Academy.
"The special thing about her is she is very thoughtful and kind and happy," says student Giulia Rollo.
The Rollo family says they love her so much they even made T-shirts to honor her.
Tina Manus, also of Stratford, told News 12 of her music teacher, Donald Brelsford, who she says supports and empowers his students.
"He gave me the confidence to know that I could sing, he never told me I couldn't," says Manus.
