A family came together at Lakeview Cemetery Saturday to put down a headstone of a loved one and demand justice seven months after his murder.
Police say 38-year-old Robert Belton, an innocent bystander, was shot to death at Wordin Avenue and Cherry Street.
"All these kids is running around killing each other, my brother got caught up in some crossfire, and now he's gone. His daughter doesn't have a father anymore, and it makes no sense," says Belton's sister, Tomika Henderson.
The family came to install a headstone in the same cemetery where Belton's brother-in-law is buried. Shawn Miller is also the victim of an unsolved homicide.
Belton's cousin Octavia Payton says she's sick and tired of people getting away with murder because, sooner or later, everyone is touched by the vicious cycle.
"We can do this, people gotta get out here and boot these people out! Out of the office! We gotta get some new people! Some new people, it's crazy! Nobody's murders are getting solved!" Payton says.
Cousin Stalita Rempelt, agrees, saying, "To have people in office who time and time again prove that they are not here for the people, something needs to happen, a change must occur."
Belton's mom, Crystal Harris, says he was a hard-working family man and nothing will ever be the same without him.
"He shouldn't just lie dead in vain, something needs to be done, I want justice for my son," she says.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call (203) 576-TIPS.
