The family of a Bridgeport woman killed in a fire are remembering her as a “smart, kind and funny” person who will “be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Fabienne Laramee, 26, died in a condominium fire on
Connecticut Avenue in Bridgeport on Dec. 23. Laramee's next-door neighbor, Jose Calderon, said he tried to rescue her but was blocked by "a thick wall of smoke and flames." "I could hear her screaming and it was heartbreaking," Calderon said.
The fire started around 5 p.m. Monday at Stratford Commons and left several other residents displaced. Members of the Bridgeport City Council visited there on Friday. "We collected gift cards and clothing and encouraged people to donate to the
GoFundMe Laramee's family set up," said Councilwoman Eneida Martinez. "Bridgeport comes together at times like this -- we always have.” The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
