Federal officials say that there is an emergency shortage of cancer drugs in southwestern Connecticut.
Doctors say the drug shortage has resulted in several recent deaths.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) attributes the lack of needed drugs to price fixing and price gouging.
"The real reasons for these shortages, I believe, has to do as much with market manipulation and potentially illegal practices that the Department of Justice should be prosecuting," said Blumenthal.
He has recently introduced legislation that would require pharmaceutical companies to notify the FDA in advance if they anticipate a shortage in the cancer drug supply.
