Greenwich officials took advantage of Monday's sunshine to celebrate a new way for the town's disabled residents to enjoy the beach.
The Greenwich Lions Club donated a wheelchair that also floats in the water. Last year, the club donated a special mat to allow people in wheelchairs to get down to the high water line on the beach.
With this new chair, people with limited mobility will be able to go in the water again.
"I'm a recent paraplegic in the last two years, and the beach for me was always a solace and restful place to come," said Greenwich resident Stephanie Cowie. "I definitely have avoided coming for the sole fact that I'm not able to access it like everyone else, so for me, this is a wonderful opportunity."
The Lion's Club hoped to donate the chair during the summer, but there were several delays blamed on COVID-19.
