A clipper storm making its way through the area is packing wild winds along with the chance of some light springtime snow for Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for southwestern Connecticut from midnight until Sunday afternoon. Wind gusts are expected to range around 45-50 mph, and perhaps higher in coastal areas. The winds could potentially cause power outages or other damage.

Temperatures will drop overnight into Sunday morning, and some areas could seea burst of wet snow. Areas north of the Merritt could see 1-2 inches of accumulation in grass-covered areas, while areas further south will likely see a coating.

Skies will clear gradually for the rest of the day Sunday and it will become mostly sunny by afternoon, but it will remain cold and windy, making it uncomfortable to be outdoors. The high temperature will only reach about 38 degrees. The strong wind gusts should taper off by Sunday evening, but more snow could arrive with another clipper system Sunday night into Monday.

Monday will see more chilly temperatures and more wintry weather. It's expected to be cloudy with periods of snow, changing to rain.

Tuesday will be partly sunny and breezy, with highs near 41 and lows near 26.
