Mourners paid their final respects to a popular woman who died after she was hit by a vehicle in Bridgeport.
People came from across the region to Saint Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church on Saturday to remember Sandra Vilsaint, 31, whom friends and family described as a caring person who always put the needs of others before her own.
"She wasn't loud or boisterous like some," said one mourner. "She just had a quiet, strong personality."
The single mother worked at a Dunkin' Donuts to support her family. "She was always laughing, smiling, joking," said Sixto Nieves, who was Vilsaint's supervisor. "That's who she was. She was like the light of day."
A vehicle struck Vilsaint as she crossed the street at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Barnum Avenue on Feb. 10.
Despite being in good spirits following the crash, Vilsaint had suffered what turned out to be a serious head injury. She was declared brain dead days later.
Vilsaint was laid to rest in Trumbull.
