A Georgia felon faced a judge Friday on charges stemming from a bank robbery in Stamford last month.
Ellsworth Smith, 63, is accused of robbing the Wachovia Bank on Summer Street. Police say Smith demanded cash while holding something in his hand to make the teller believe he possibly had a weapon. Police say they used fingerprints and a surveillance photo to identify Smith.
According to police, Smith has a lengthy criminal record, which includes murder. Police say other than his criminal record, very little is known about Smith.
Smith is charged with first-degree robbery and is being held on $1 million bond.
