The Stratford Fire Department responded to a call early Sunday morning on Shoreline Drive to find a hot tub had caught fire.
The third-floor fire then spread to the surrounding deck and the second-floor ceiling.
The fire caused the hot tub to break, and its water dropped down through all three floors of the home, causing extensive damage.
More than 25 firefighters worked to extinguish the fire but faced a few challenges.
"We needed extra man-power to get some of our ladders in place as well as stretch some of our attack lines," says Assistance Fire Chief Michael Camperlengo. "The nearest hydrant was close to 900 feet away so that took a little bit of extra time to get water. "
No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
